WEEKLY WEATHER FORECAST VALID FOR THE PERIOD FROM 9TH FEBRUARY TO 15TH FEBRUARY 2010. A. IMPORTANT SYNOPTIC FEATURES: - 1. A trough in the westerlies at 500 hpa level lies with its axis extending from 63° E & 40° N to 62° E & 28° N. 2. The sub-tropical westerly jet at 300 hpa level runs across northern parts of Saudi Arabia, Gulf of Oman, southern parts of Pakistan and central parts of India. B. WEATHER SUMMARY DURING LAST WEEK IN THE FOLLOWING REGIONS: - Rain with a number of moderate to heavy falls and snowfall over hills have occurred almost at all the places in Hazara from 4th to last day, Peshawar, Malakand and Kashmir from 5th to last day, Quetta on 6th day, Kohat and Rawalpindi on 6th & last day, at a number of places in Malakand, Peshawar and Kashmir on 4th day, Rawalpindi on 4th & 5th day, Gilgit- Baltistan on 4th, 6th & last day, Quetta on 5th day, Mekran on 6th day, Gujranwala on 6th & last day and at a few places in Malakand and Hazara on 3rd day, Gujranwala and Quetta on 4th day, Kohat on 4th & 5th day, Bannu on 4th, 6th & last day, Sargodha and Gilgit-Baltistan on 5th day, Sibbi on 5th & 6th day, Kalat on 5th & last day, Faisalabad, Lahore and Larkana on 6th & last day and Zhob on last day of the week. The lowest minimum temperature of 3.9° C was recorded at Mangla (Plain station) on 04-02-2010 and -8.0° C at Kalam (Hill station) on 05-02-2010. C. SIGNIFICANT WEATHER:- Rain/thundershowers with a few moderate to heavy falls and snowfall over hills are likely to occur at a number of places in the NWFP, northern areas of the Punjab, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during first two days of the week, at a few places in northeast Balochistan and at one or two places in southern areas of the Punjab and Upper Sindh on first day of the week and again at one or two places over hills of the NWFP and Kashmir during rest of the week. The lowest minimum temperatures in plains of the country are likely to range between 2° C to 4° C. D.
